EMPOWERING FRONTLINE PROFESSIONALS

TO SUSTAIN THEMSELVES AND THEIR WORK THROUGH MINDFULNESS

Mindfulness training built for the realities of high-stakes work. Practical, evidence-based tools for professionals who carry stress, crisis, and trauma as part of the job.

WHAT WE’RE FACING

Police and firefighters. Doctors, nurses, and clinicians. Correctional and probation officers. Court professionals. The staff who hold higher education together. These professionals go above and beyond for the people they serve — and that dedication comes at a cost. They work with people in crisis, they carry what they witness, and they are too often expected to do it with little time, few tools, or cultural permission to attend to their own well-being (let alone sustain it over a career). Whatever the setting, the people doing this work are rarely cared for the way the work demands.

We believe that mental health is a right, not a privilege.

With the right tools and training, it is possible to establish sustainable care even in the most demanding settings. We know, because we’ve done it. For over 25 years, we’ve trained professionals across justice, clinical, court, and educational systems in mindfulness-based practices that adapt to the cultural, professional, and institutional realities of their work. Together, we can heal from the inside out.

Professional Trainings

FOUNDATIONAL TRAINING

Our foundational training is professional development for staff and leaders who want to build their own mindfulness practice, strengthen their resilience against stress, trauma, and burnout, and bring greater presence to the people in their care. This track is designed to change the practitioner — to equip each person with the self-awareness, regulation skills, and trauma-informed lens that allow them to show up differently on the job.

The foundational track includes:

  • Stress management — practical tools for sustaining wellbeing under the weight of the work
  • Trauma-informed practice — a clinical lens on the people you serve and the colleagues working alongside you
  • Holistic wellness and personal accountability — grounding self-care as the foundation for showing up for others
  • Attunement and co-regulation — the micro-skills that build trust and settle activated rooms
  • Trauma-informed mentoring — bringing these tools to the people you lead
  • Team dynamics, psychological safety, and a culture of trust — for leaders building the environments their staff work inside

Our culturally responsive approach draws on the frameworks of developmental trauma disorder (DTD), Interpersonal Neurobiology (IPNB), and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to examine the developmental, vicarious, and systemic forms of trauma impacting these professionals and the people they serve every day — and coaches participants through practical, mindfulness-based techniques to respond with compassion and skill.

ADVANCED CERTIFICATION

Our advanced certification is for professionals and leaders who are ready to go beyond their own practice and bring trauma-informed mindfulness to their broader workplace community. Where the foundational training changes the practitioner, the certification track is designed to change the culture — equipping participants to lead this work with colleagues, integrate it into their site, and build a community of practice that sustains it over time.

The certification track goes deeper into MBA’s core material, grounded in 25 years of practice. It is not about adding new content; it is about going far enough into the foundations that participants can carry the work, model it, and pass it on. Certification content includes:

  • Foundations of mindfulness — practiced at the depth required to teach and transmit, not just apply
  • The science of stress, trauma, and the nervous system — how it lives in the body, how it shapes leadership and relationships, and how to explain it to others
  • Somatic and co-regulation tools — for staying present when the room is activated, and for coaching others through the same
  • Attunement and advanced communication — the micro-behaviors that build trust and de-escalate
  • Post-traumatic growth — reframing struggle as a pathway to strength

Certification candidates build on the foundations with deeper practice, supervised application, and facilitation skills. Participants receive individualized feedback as they put trauma-informed mindfulness interventions into practice in a practicum group, alongside one-on-one coaching from MBA’s experts. The goal is not simply a calmer workplace — it is an organization where mindfulness, emotional regulation, and healing-centered engagement become part of how the work is done.

Coaching

Coaching is the engine that makes the rest of the work stick. Within both the foundational and advanced certification tracks, participants receive one-on-one coaching with MBA’s experts — a dedicated space to deepen their own practice, work through the challenges of applying this work at their site, and receive individualized guidance from facilitators with decades of experience in schools, juvenile halls, and underserved communities.

We offer coaching in two modalities. Standard one-on-one coaching focuses on the participant’s own practice, leadership, and the situations they are navigating. Feedback and observation coaching, designed for middle managers and leaders, includes observation of the participant in context — facilitating, leading a team, responding in a difficult moment — with targeted feedback afterward. Both modalities are built around the reality we see again and again in our partner organizations: the staff who are coached integrate this work.

TESTIMONIALS

“MBA supported what our clinical case managers were doing in helping folks get back on their feet. It supported the clients and their work, and all the other programmatic aspects we had. It just aligned really well with the work we’re doing.”

—Clinician, Youth and Family Services, Alameda County Sheriff’s Office

[Mindfulness] is a skillset that some clients and clinicians aren’t taught. The work MBA did helped support my staff (of clinicians) in gaining some of those skills in their work. It grounded them and reinforced why we do the work we do.
